SafeSpace will be supported and implemented by a range of partners and lead by Rape Crisis. The Foschini Group will be one of the main corporate sponsors of this initiative. The Foschini Group committed to a 3-year plan, which is kicked off by them donating R500 000 to SafeSpace.
This investment will in particular be used to support the “Reaching out to youth and communities” project. The youth awareness sessions aim to break the cycle of violence by reaching out to teenagers, both in their schools and at youth centers. Part of this initiative also incorporates signing up taxi operators to provide safe transport home.
SafeSpace aims to use their extensive knowledge, skills and experience to create ripple effects that will expand the concept of ‘safe spaces’ through classrooms, homes, workplaces, courts, hospitals and the media.
The Foschini Group are passionate about creating safe spaces for their staff, customers and greater communities and are therefore committed to seeing these projects make a real difference in society’s quest for safer places.
Part of the R500 000 being donated by The Foschini Group to SafeSpace, will be funded by the proceeds from the sale of a new clothing range in Foschini, called Global Art. The name “Global Art” was inspired by the fact that although we are part of a global village, we are very proud of our local art and talent.
The entire Global Art range is totally homegrown, inspired, designed and produced by the Foschini in-house design team and using local design talent and materials.
